Jarandeshwar temple was of interest to me due to the fact that I pray Hanuman regularly and the special thing of this temple is Hanuman with mustache !When I searched on internet for the story, I learnt that Hanumanji picked mountain himalaya since he was not able to locate Sanjivani gutika (medicine), as he traveled to Sri Lanka a small part of that mountain fallen down, that part of hill is called as Jarendeshwar, it hill !!
I tried to look at the map to see how this might have happened, however not sure how this has happened, look at the map below from Himalaya to srilanka (in between I have marked Satara to show the track)
Anyway we are more interested in knowing the place,
Jarandeshwar, Satara
Jarandeshwar has got around 1000 steps to climb (we counted them since on internet I could also find that there are 500 to 5000 steps !! so decided to do fact finding), honestly climbing steps in painful job, so one has to try way round, which I could see from the back side of temple.
Insects found immediately after you start your walk, they are not found once you cross about 100 steps ! not on the hill top !! they are found in difference colours …
to us 1000 steps is a pain, but for these young friends aged 85 years and 75 years .. going to Hanuman darshan is a weekly affair !! and they were at so ease !!! hats off ….
As you move to back side of this temple, you will see different sizes of spherical stones, there is tradition that the groom has to come here to invite Hanuman, that time he has to lift the spherical stone (whichever he can lift) and throw it behind from the shoulders, so here is Mandar attempting his best 😛
There is one more small temple at the backmost part, from this side itself there is another way to climb this hill which is without steps
and here is map showing distance from Pune to Jarandeshwar
You can have one day trek & trip from Pune as indicated below
First visit Solshi Shani Temple,
Second visit to Jarandeshwar Hanuman Temple
Last visit to the Yamai Devi Temple and then back to Pune
This will be approximately 300 kilometers round in a day
