Harishchandragad via Pachnai | Entry Fee imposed from July 2019

By Mahesh 7 Comments | Last Updated July 10, 2019

Wow .. Difficult to decide ! Whether to write about trek to Harishchandragad via Pachnai village route OR to write about Grand wedding anniversary celebrations with FONA family OR the mesmerizing sunset (& moonset !) with night camping at Kokankada !!! Another challenge is to select the photographs !! Minimum photographs but maximum information ….

To begin with this trek was to celebrate wedding anniversary with tent camping, so it was inadvertent to select the simplest climbing route, safe camping fort, food & water availability. So Manoj wisely selected trek to Harishchandragad via Pachnai village route (All my previous treks were via Khireshwar route which is bit tough to carry tents and all stuff) and mind it that his decision was 101 % correct 🙂

Walk to every trek since years with Roopa … I have always felt like timeless travel … I feel togetherness for over 24 years like 24 days .. 24 hours .. 24 minutes .. no no 24 seconds … I never realized how the time has passed by … Still remember the collage days with her …. No words to explain the feelings … Surely some another day you will hear more about the love story 🙂

Entry fee for Harishchandragad (July 2019)

Entry fee has been imposed by Local Grampanchayat from July 2019, declaration by them is as below

By the way look at Doctor Pawar’s on the way to Harishchandragad via Pachnai route who also celebrated 35th Wedding anniversary this December 🙂 So team FONA is full of happy couples …

Route looks amazing .. rocks on your left and valley on right … this route must be tough during monsoon ..

trek to harishchandragad via pachnai

It was bit late (~4 pm) at Paachnai village, and Sunset at Kokankada was calling me and Roopa, so slow and steady walk got both of us to Kokankada by ~5.40 pm …

[Paachnai village bus parking GPS location : 19.4133,73.78201 ]

And to my surprise Kokankada was crowded like anything !!! wow ! look at the picture below !! So many trekkers … that’s good news …. I still remember my first visit in 1990’s when I was with my three friends and we felt like a God !! Now today it’s history …

sunset kokankada

It is said that any trekker in Maharashtra must visit Kokankada once in his lifetime and what I feel is that he should not miss the Stunning Sunset at Kokankada.

Thanks to Rahul to capture the emotions of Sunset so beautifully  ….  Sunset here lasts for more than 35~40 minutes … Till now what I have seen in sunset typically ends in 10 minutes .. but here Sun remains in the same position for about half an hour … it melts down in 3~4 minutes as soon as it kisses the horizon ..stunning sunsets with friends

stunning sunset

And hats off to Rahul for this fantastic capture of his son Aditya (Chota Trekker) I am sure I will include this on my TrekBook.in visiting card 🙂

As the enjoyment of sunset was over it was time for tent building …. since I was doing it third time it was bit simple for me … Read Camping Do’s & Don’ts

How to Set Up Tent

There is plenty of flat space at Kokankada and I could see around 6 groups with almost 25 tents being set up around ..

Obviously nights are chilly and you can have fun camp fire with songs and jokes … Here are some Picnic campfire songs only for you …

night camping near pune and mumbai

Dinner after campfire was one of the best I had … Bhakari .. Vange bhaji … Kadhi bhat … Just imagine .. you are on the top of ~4000 feets … its rocket cold outside … and you are enjoying dinner with your family and friends … yummy treat indeed …

After dinner get back to Kokankada to enjoy the Moonset ! yes .. simply marvelous .. Manoj, me and friends listening to melodious flute played by a trekker !! it was like a feast to the ears in a million star hotel …

Credits to Sourab who spent half an hour struggling with his tripod capturing me & Manoj with million stars … This would give you glimpse of feelings …stargazing near mumbai and pune

When I was back to tent (by ~1 am) Sourabh was still busy capturing million stars with tents … Thanks to Sourabh for such beautiful capture …

I wanted to add so many photographs for the wedding anniversary celebrations … but loading the post with so many photos is not so good idea …and rather I wanted to focus more on celebrations of nature which is freely available for you ! so don’t wait just go for it .. I am already planning to go there with my colleagues …

In short Trek to Harishchandragad via pachnai village route is the most easy way, you can reach comfortably in ~1.5 hours to the top. Tents and food is easily available with marginal cost ( I will put down all the phone numbers of hotels in the next blog post)

More details about Harishchandragad trek from Pune are already added to my previous blog post

With last die hard photograph by Rohit & tonnes of thanks to Mandar, Manoj, Rohit & the FONA family I will conclude the post  🙂
