I was excited to visit Fort Ranthambore since it is part of the World Heritage Site Hill Forts of Rajasthan, in fact we visited it the first day we reached Sawai Madhopur, you can make it as a half day visit to get glimpse of it and visit to the Tri-Netri Ganesha temple, but honestly speaking you need full day time if you wish to explore the fort, it is so huge that area is in square kilometers ! Fort contains ruins including palaces, temples, cenotaphs, step-wells and houses.
I recommend you to read complete history of fort on wikipedia website
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranthambore_Fort
and till the time you read it I would love to take you through virtual tour of this beautiful fort ….
ruins of the fort .. no one goes in this area .. guide told me that people get lost in the maze here and hence no one goes there …
u can see thousands of houses built onto the fort .. guide told me that there is saying that “if u build house using stones here on this fort .. ur dream to own house gets fulfilled” hence people make stone houses every where… interesting !!
Temple of Tri-Netri Ganesha (Ganesha with three eyes) .. no one knows about the history of this temple, I bought book which is printed in 1970’s .. however it also does not provide details of formation of this temple ! anyway I could read that this is very famous temple and people do send invitation of marriages .. functions to lord Ganesha, and the local postman reads the same by coming here !!! he informs the invitation to Lord Ganesha !! this is India .. it can happen only in India … Incredible India truly …
View of fort wall from route 1 of my jungle safari .. just can’t imagine how this huge wall has build those days … truly amazing …
Local people provides water all over fort ..u may pay some money as per ur wish … I must admire the act by local people .. again this can happen only in India …
It’s really worth visiting this fort during ur Ranthambore jungle safari … normally u reach by noon by train from mumbai and so get time to spend second half of the day to visit this fort .. and the bonus is that since the fort is amid the jungle .. there are 100% chances that u get tiger sightseeing before u start the jungle safari …
cheers !!
