Polpat, Latne [How Rolling board & rolling pin manufactured]

By Mahesh Leave a Comment | Last Updated June 11, 2018

I wanted to have new Rolling board & rolling pin ( In Marathi language called as Polpat & Latne) for use at home. This is typically used for making of Chapati in Maharashtra (and in almost all parts of India), so I went to factory which makes this and sells all over India.

just see how it is manufactured in workshop –

Polpat, Latne [How Rolling board & rolling pin manufactured]

step 1 )

cut wood into slabs -> planks (it is important to get wood of large size since you should be able to get 10″ to 13″ diameter rolling board cut from these pieces), here the workshop owner told me that now a days it is becoming very difficult to get such wood and he has to keep on moving all around India to get such wood and take months.

step 2)

turn 10″ to 13″ round boards out of plank, you can see below the snap of turning machine they use. This is very risky part of their job, since wood can crack during high speed spinning and the shop owner himself has lost his right eye in an accident 🙁

step 3)

polish the round board on sides with colour and on top with coating (lakh is used for this)

step 4) fit legs to the round board

step 5) packaging in plastic with stamped size on back of rolling board

See from right – me, my Mama, Workshop owner

and need less to say that Mr. … refused to take money from me since I was nephew of his friend 🙂 you know this is typical Indian way 🙂 friendship is work lakhs of rupees ,,, u just can’t measure it in money 🙂

Chalo then I will also put some snaps about how we make chapatis using this rolling board and rolling pin (Polpat & Latne)
