Devkund waterfalls has became so famous in last couple of years that you will see hundreds of trekkers and non-trekkers visiting this beautiful waterfall.
Few years back Devkund waterfall was almost unknown & unexplored to the world since its hidden deep inside the jungle. As soon as photos got viral over social networks like Instagram and Facebook, the Devkund Waterfall became a Trekking destination for Pune and Mumbai people.
Devkund waterfall is said to be the origin of River Kundalika.
Since the walk to this waterfall is not that difficult many non-trekkers also enjoy visiting this place with little guidance.
I can say that Devkund waterfall is one of the most scenic location in India and comparable to many international destinations 🙂
You will surely enjoy walk through many streams and the lush green forest around, remember that many trails on this route are still unexplored so do not deviate from the navigated route. Also take care of the slippery rock patches round the way, use rope as needed to cross the streams.
Caution – Although Devkund trek is of medium difficulty level you must go with experience guide since last couple of years have experienced deaths of 2-3 techies due to drowning. Especially while you cross water streams, there is possibility of sudden water level increase.

Way to this waterfall passes through the famous Tamhini ghat and Mulshi dam. During monsoon season the road is covered with lush greenery and misty clouds.

Parking
Once you reach Bhira dam, you can park your bike, car or bus near the petrol pump which is located at entry point of this village.
Alternatively now a days villagers are permitting to go ahead till the start point of Devkund waterfall and charge 100 Rs for bus.
Local guide for Devkund trek
Local people have realized importance of tourism and work as local guide. You can bargain depending upon your group size.
They also provide food on chargeable basis, so discuss about that upfront so that by the time you are back from trek, you get serving of hot and tasty food.
Like if you start from Pune at 6 am and reach Bhira dam by 8 am, then you get back from trek by 2 pm or so for lunch.
WARNING : If you don’t know swimming then do not enter into the Devkund pond.

- July-Aug à Peak period – high risk – high gain – Can’t go inside water
- Sept-Oct à Safe period – Low risk – Enjoy the waterfall, go inside water
- Nov-Feb à Waterfall becomes weak, still enjoyable
Warning : In case it is raining heavily then you must not goto this trek, there are cases of death due to drowning and also the Devkund waterfalls was closed for 3 months due to this.
How to reach Devkund from Pune?
By Road:
Devkund waterfall distance from Pune is about 100 kms >> Swargate > Katraj > Taminighat > Patnus > Bhira Dam
Devkund waterfall distance from Mumbai is about 124 kms >> Karjat – Khopoli – Pali – Bhira Dam
All that you have to do is drive down to Bhira village. Reach the TATA power plant near Bhira dam which is the major landmark to reach Devkund trek.
Mumbai to Devkund by Train or Bus:
Mumbai >> Karjat >> Khopoli by train
Khopoli >> Pali ( ST bus ) >> Pali to Bhira (ST bus )

Pali to Bhira >> 6.15, 8.45, 10.15, 13.45, 15, 16, 17.30, 18.40
Bhira to Pali >> 7.15, 8.20, 10.30, 14.45, 16, 18.15
Pune to Devkund by Train or Bus:
Pune to Karjat by train >> Karjat to Khopoli (train)
Khopoli >> Pali ( ST bus ) >> Pali to Bhira (ST bus )
By Railway :
Nearest railway station is Kolad from where Bhira dam is at 46 kms, you can hire jeep from this place till Bhira.
Devkund trek cost from Mumbai:
60 Rs = CST to Khopoli train return ticket
102 Rs = Khopoli – Pali bus return ticket
40 Rs = Pali to Bhira Village bus return ticket
Total you need to spend 202 Rs for Devkund trek
Local guide charges are 100 Rs per person, so total trek cost is 302 Rs.

People do stay near this waterfall in tents, however due to accidents forest department has banned staying at this place. Also there is fear of snakes and wild animals.
