Switzerland 16 – Chateau de Chillon, Montreux

From Montreux railway station catch a train towards Veytaux-Chillon, which takes only 15 mins to reach. from there you need to walk for about 10 mins. Alternatively if u catch a bus, then u can get down directly in front of the castle.

I chose route of train route, got down at Veytaux-Chillon and walked towards the lake side below the bridge.u can see the photo below on the way, giving u an idea about the distance from railway station. of-course the way is beautiful on the bank of lake ..

As you enter the castle, you need to buy entry ticket, if u hv the swiss travel pass then u get ticket for free, so remember to show it at the ticket counter …

u got to get a complete information brochure, which is carefully detailed with information on around 46 points that u can see in the castle, without help from anyone .. just get on as indicated in the brochure .. point numbers are displayed everywhere and u can easily co-relate the information … in addition to this there are computer displays near each point wherein u can listen to and view more information about the point, but if u go that way u need a complete day !

also in case u r interested then u can rent audio guides (iPods)which provides commentary on the castle’s architecture and tell its story in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese (I think they shall add Hindi language too ! since so many Indians travel to Switzerland, remember the Interlaken hotel owner speaking hindi !! )

we kept on reading points and did not spend too much time at each point, still it took around 2.5 hours to have a complete round in and out of Chateau de Chillon 🙂 so reserve time-slot, it is worth spending time looking such heritage ….

the view from the interior of Chateau de Chillon
from the top view point one can get the overview of fort …
by the time we completed the tour of about 2.5 hours .. it started raining outside …
used as bedroom at middle ages …
the Armour and jackets ..
the constables dining room .. previously used as ceremonial room ,,,
canon …
here prisoners were kept …
sine cellar and store room ..11th century ..

city view from the top observation point of fort … it takes hell of efforts 🙂 to go to this point .. keep walking.

nice evening … time to get back to hotel …tired …walked too much in a day ..
cheers !!
