as example, a week back on my return trip from Kolhapur, it was late night and when I entered Chinchwad .. suddenly bumped on newly created ! speed cum car breaker !! since there is no standard mandatory to be followed and depending upon the creativity of contractor or government officer it can be shaped to any height and length, during night time it is too dangerous to hit such car breakers, and if you are traveling in a bus, you can get flying experience too 🙂
many times accidents has happened due to this and the main purpose of speed breakers defeated.
what is the solution ?
to my mind there can be a smart speed breaker developed for which height will be controlled depending upon the time of day. as example if the speed breaker is located near school, height of SB can be increased to its maximum (possible/feasible) level during the time school open/close hours, remaining hours the height can go back to normal operation, the same SB during night time can subdue to the normal road levels since it is not needed at all due to no traffic.
this solution will serve the main purpose of controlling vehicle speeds for the most rush hours, functioning as safety measure, however will act as fuel saver in case there is no traffic (no need to reduce speed of vehicle).
to me in country like India where unfortunately accidents has become a part of life ! such measures shall help a lot.
