Gorakhgad Trek – Medium difficult, How to reach from Kalyan?

By Mahesh 2 Comments | Last Updated June 7, 2018

Gorakhgad Trek (गोरखगड) is simply one of the best I would say .. I have named it as Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka 🙂 in short span it provides you different difficulty levels, it is like playing a video game .. you win the first stage .. and your difficulty level rises … you cross the second stage .. the difficulty level rises further …
Here at Gorakhgad trek .. you reach to the first samadhi point (and small plateau) to achieve first level (till this point trek is steep climbing but still simple for experienced trekker and difficult for beginner) .. from there steps start carved on steep .. once you climb those to reach caves .. that is the second level .. Now the third level is tough to go upto the top Gorkhnath temple ..

so you can get different levels of difficulty in the same trek .. so it’s Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka

I feel Gorakhgad trek in monsoon would be more thrilling …

Also many trekkers like to have night trek, however you need to be extra careful during night trek due to its difficulty.

History

It is said that saint Goraknath, used to perform penance here and the fort is named Gorakh gad due to that.

History of Gorakhagad can go back up to Satvahan Dynasty.

This fort was used as a stopover point from Junnar via Naneghat during the era of Shivaji Maharaj.

The adjoining Machindragad peak is also named after the teacher-disciple relationship of Machindranath and Gorakhnath.

No major battle took place at this fort.

Difficulty level for Gorakhgad Trek

Easy to Medium
(this trek has specialty that person who is beginner can do it till base level till the first samadhi, slightly experienced person can climb till caves, and good trekker can go upto the top Gorakhnath temple, hence difficulty level varies from easy to medium/semi-hard)

Time to reach

Around 2.5 hours to climb and 1.5 hours to descend down

What to see !

  • East = Sahyadri ranges of Naneghat
  • Dhakoba सह्याद्रीच्या रांगा आणि ढाकोबा
  • South = Ahupe ghat आहुपे घाट
  • South-west = Siddhagad.सिद्धगड
  • Machhindragad  मछिन्द्रगड

Place to stay/take food & water

Water : Clean and crystal clear water available near the caves
Food and stay : You can stay in the caves, I am sure it will be thrilling experience indeed
