Bird watching at Ranthambore

By Mahesh Leave a Comment | Last Updated July 26, 2015

Although tiger safari is one of the main attraction of Ranthambore national park, to my surprise I could see maximum number and variety of birds during this safar. Being so hot/cold region and availability of water issues, there are thousands of birds residing in the jungle, any time in a day u can listen to cheering sounds all around. Normally birds activities are more during morning and evenings, but here u can see the same through out the day … so i loved this trip for watching beautiful birds …

I started with my first capture at the resort at noon, wherein a parrot was drinking water  on leaking pipe, later I could see many birds coming to this point as usual practice 🙂
normally I do not like leaking joints for wastage of water, but here it
is excused, it was really helping birds in summer heat …

Bunting shot using 18-135 mm lens from my canon 600d, I m not that good at camera settings to get perfect bird shots … but never mind ,,, at least u get an idea of what species u can see at jungle !!

gray heron sitting alone ! plenty of water was available due to good rains this year … else normally these water storage areas sunk to its limit by mid May !

Paradise Flycatchersm as told by rhe guide this is male who becomes white colour after 3 years ! and in birds males are always attractive than females !!

Do not know name of this bird, captured at the tiger moon resort ….

bulbul – drinking water at standard leakage point 🙂

Ranthambore – golden oriole (captured at tiger moon resort, inside jungle I saw many of them but very difficult to capture shots when u r in gypsy and this bird do not sit quite mostly, getting snap at resort was easy)

many many times u will see peacock dancing at Ranthombore .. almost all our groups enjoyed this scene.

capture at tiger moon resort, robbin posing for photo !

these seven sisters are so used to get inside gypsy, that even though u do not ask for they will enter inside and search for food ! this is specifically observed at route 1 check post (chowki)

same on route 1 chowki, treepie are so used to the tourists that they like sitting on head asking for eating things!! even our group head instructed not to feed to these birds, these treepies asked in such humble way that we could not say no !!

again a good capture of woodpecker at tiger moon resort, almost for 10 minutes i could see what he is doing and capture some photographs … clear sound of tak-tak on wood …while at jungle safari u will see many more…

seven sisters capture at tiger moon resort …

falcon capture inside jungle, he was drinking water for long period .. we awaited for 5 mins still he did not finish drinking water so we left him in search of tiger .. this was on route 4

purple heron .. on route 4 water body …

king fisher on route 4 water front .. u can see the jungle is so dry in spite on being on verge of water body ! this i did not understand !!

again on route 4, owl … I do not like to photograph him !! but anyway it is also a type of bird !!!

robbin at resort .. nice capture with great pose…

while returning on route 4 we got this cute babies of Titar … if u see the photograph carefully u will be able to note the babies following male and female titar …they crossed the road in front of out gypsy ..

overall I could see birds beyond my expectation and was really happy .. this was bonus over the tiger safari .. so even if u do not see tiger .. be sure that u can enjoy loads of birds …

summary
– many bird species are easily visible throughout the day at Ranthambore national park
– suggest to take good quality binocular for bird watching
– keep notebook with u to note down bird names as u capture photos
