Barki Waterfalls Kolhapur [NEW Hot Monsoon Destination]

By Mahesh 1 Comment | Last Updated May 12, 2018

“Barki Waterfall” is rapidly developing as a hot destination for people of Kolhapur & Pune … as an alternative to standard destinations like Panhala or Mahabaleshwar ..This scenic destination is situated at Shahuwadi taluka of Kolhapur … A scenic green way will take you to Barki (~50 kilometers of tar road from Kolhapur) ….
Barki waterfalls near kolhapur .. Its a new hot destiation and my recommendation is to visit this memorizing waterfall before it becomes crowdy ..

After @50 kms one has to travel on rough muddy road .. my recommendation is to travel by SUV to avoid any issues in mud travel … (even though people do travel there by car !! I will not prefer it)

Before Barki village you will encounter a police check post, where they check for any liquor bottles carried over by tourists …. ( I feel this is must and very good initiative by Police)

After the police check post, you enter the village by crossing small bridge .. mind it that in case of heavy rainfall this bridge goes under water !!

Very nominal entry charges of 1 Rupee per tourist is charged by gram panchayat and 5~10 Rs parking charges depending upon 2 or 4 wheeler …

Now once you park the vehicle you have two choices …

Option 1 : Trekking

Have a 4 kilometers of jungle trek .. Please note that the path towards the waterfalls is narrow downhill, muddy and slippery, if you are regular trekker then this not at all issue .. you will enjoy this path …

Option 2 : Boating through Barki Reservoir

Travel to the waterfall by boat. This will avoid all the way jungle trek and get you down just near the waterfall … although this route took, you need to walk a bit through jungle 🙂 but I am sure you will enjoy it ..

There are 5 waterfalls at Barki Village, out of which you can reach the two .. (Remaining 3 are not accessible)

Note : Beware of Leeches though, there are plenty of them at the start of the monsoon.

Height of waterfalls is approximately 250~300 feet ..

Google GPS co-ordinates for the main waterfall – 16.764735, 73.842802

Thanks to the detailed video by Ranjit Majgaonkar, ABP Maza, Kolhapur .. it’s a must watch before to visit this beautiful Monsoon Waterfall near Pune and Kolhapur…

Enjoy the Monsoon …
Cheers !!
