Patna (Bihar) the ancient city !

By Mahesh Leave a Comment | Last Updated July 26, 2015

I hv visited Indian metros and the tourist destinations .. but I think my visit to Patna (Bihar) was one of the interesting so far !!.

Experience breath taking mosquito bites outside  Patna international airport, you must get down during evening time to get this 🙂

Local taxi is pretty cheap with approximate 100 Rs/kilometer, I paid ~300 Rs for going to hotel Chanakya which is far away from airport (3.5 kms!).. the taxis provides u classic ride in (old) Maruti 800, mosquito’s bites are free during ride ! ha ! ha !!

People love horns and loud sounds, so durability testing of horn is done all the time .. they are world class drivers with bumper to bumper (physically) traffic … so many cycle rikshaws .. bicycles, motorcycles, cars … all moving slowly with bumpers touching .. by tradition you have to have 4 corners of your vehicle damaged 🙂

City people are cost conscious so they do not like to waste money in painting the houses, so most of the houses are without plaster and paint ! houses are simple having brick work !!

Scene outside my hotel road .. a man milking cow on crystal clean roadside !

Patna city view from Hotel Republic (new)

As you travel few kilometers outside city, you would love to see Rural Bihar everywhere

Coal is used extensively, almost 99% hotels you see coal used for cooking, it would be lying in front of hotel like below

Roadside Chai wala using coal with advanced technology of fan !

If you want to know how liberal the government is just look at the road side outskirts city (not too far .. just 10 kilometers) you would find wood piled up everywhere. This must be government attempt to make more land free from trees !!

Road side datun wala, photo is self explanatory showing status of people living slightly outskirts of city !

look at the air conditioned saloon .. hats of to Bihar Govrnment for promoting such low cost employment to their people .. no infrastructure needed …
Road side you will see small pan shops where tobacco  is made on small machines from roots

moving to the most famous river Ganga, you would not be surprised to see the clean and crystal clear water ..

and now if you want to get real shock ! move to Lalu house …

The road is wide and clean !! only near Lalu house !! I think rest of the Bihar is like what I have shown in photos all over this blog post !! hat’s off to Mr. Lalu !!!

Videos of how teaching happens in Bihar, I am sure you would appreciate efforts put in by Bihar govrnment in Education sector.

Finally what can I buy in this city (I could get Khadi hand printed cloths, which was
best part of my visit)-

I recommend one should visit Bihar and Patna once in his lifetime to see, how people might be living ages back !! you would be happy to get back to your own town !! you will feel that you are living in advanced world !!

cheers !!
