Patna (Bihar) Food & the hotels

By Mahesh Leave a Comment | Last Updated July 26, 2015

Knowing local food specialties & satisfying your taste buds is a great idea, so at Patna while roaming around streets, you will see the staple food called as Litti with Chikhi. As I asked the hotel person to photograph this dish, he was suspected that I am a food inspector, but after explained that I am a writer he permitted me to take snaps !! he also offered me to taste the dish, but considering the environment all around (refer to my previous blog post) I did not dare to do it :-O

There is one more sweet dish which I tasted from the famous shop “Ma Gayatri Lai Bhandar” at outskirts of city, this is prepared from Lai and Mawa, It was simple and something different that I had so far …

The next lunch I had at hotel Biryani Mahel, which is one of the famous hotel at Patna, hotel was pretty crowdy and service was also fast, I tasted biryani here which was decent in taste, surely I would recommend one visit if u get time ..

The next lunch I had at Chawla Lakhu Da Dhaba Restaurant, now why this hotel ? because there are only few restaurants where a Pune person can have food which he can digest !!! so this hotel is comparatively decent in terms of spices they pour in .. service is very very slow, so it can take about 1~2 hours for your lunch.

The special here is Paan Ka Raas, this I tasted first time in my life, which is typical Indian Paan with milk, it is taken after lunch or dinner as digestive medium. I did not like it so much, but as something new u may like to try it

So looking at the situation I did not dare to try street food, but could have some flavor  of it from the above photographs …

Now coming to my stay .. the pre-booking was at 4 star hotel Chanakya which is 3.5 kms away from airport (for which I paid 500 Rs for taxy !! which was a 4 star 1990’s M800 S class taxi !!)

The hotel is at prime location & looks perfect from outside …
The reception of hotel Chanakya
And my room at hotel Chanakya (was sinking as good as it was looking !!)

The food was costly like anything, Khichadi dish was costing 550 Rs ! although it was my official tour where company spends ! It was not worth wasting money !! so I decided to shift to another hotel called as Republic (new) amid the city.

Room in hotel republic was really good one, and the food quality / service was also very good, owner was interested in knowing the feedback and improving the hotel, I would definitely recommend this hotel for its cost and quality of stay.

Sp coming to my recommendation I would say the new and relocated hotel republic (do not goto old republic) is good to stay at, due to its service and food quality. since his owner is ready to listen to the suggestions I would hope to get this experience again.

Local food one may not try due to the dusty and other factory (see photos from my previous blog post) ..
