There are n number of websites dedicated to Saint Shri Swami Samarth Ramdas (स्वामी समर्थ रामदास ) the Spiritual Guru of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ….

However NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE on the 11 Maruti temples( अकरा मारुती मंदिर ) established by Shri Swami Samarth Ramdas in the vicinity of Chaphal-Satara area in Maharashtra, India !!!

These 11 Maruti’s are also called as 마루티1ㅣ or “Vaariche Maruti” which is similar to the famous Ashtavinayaka or eight Ganeshas, in Maharashtra, India

So I decided to put information on web & today this page has been reference by many websites including WikiPedia …

In year 1674 coronation of Chatrapati Shivaji took place, wherein Samrath Ramdas wrote a poetry “Anandbhuwani” which refers to the 11 Maruti temples …

Swami Samarth Ramdas pupil Venabaai says about the 11 Maruti temples as …

1) Shahapur – Chunyacha Maruti

Worship is done by Kulkarni family of Shahapur, Hanuman Jayanti festival is celebrated on Chaitra Shudhha 15 every year. There is small brass idol which they take to Chaphal Ram Navami Utsav.

2) Masur – Maharudra Hanuman

Worship is done by Kulkarni family of Bramhapuri, Hanuman Jayanti festival is celebrated on Chaitra Shudhha 15 every year. This is the best and most beautiful in all 11 temples. To the left & right of main idol Shivaji Maharaj & Shri Swami Samartha are painted on the wall. Here you can stay at Monastery of Ramdasi Maharaj (information ~20 years old to be confirmed)

3) Das Maruti Mandir

Is in Namaskar position it is standing in front of Ram in Chaphal temple

Situated behind Shri Ram temple of Chaphal also called as Bhim Maruti, Pratap Maruti or Veer MAruti. Festival is celebrated at Sharavan Vadya 30. You can stay at Monestery in Chaphal near Ram mandir (this facility I have seen in 2009, so you can stay there)

5) Shinganvadi Maruti

Very near to Chaphal. Ramghal is located where Swami Samrtha used to do meditation. Also spring water called as Kubadi Tirtha is found here. It is said that Swamiji created this to give water to thirsty Shivaji Maharaj. This is the smallest temple of all 11 temples.

6) Umbraj Maruti

Idol is made of lime + Sand + Jute. This is called as Umbraj Maruti or Mathatil Maruti. Thing to note is that there in no spire to this temple !

Idol is facing towards West i.e. it is looking towards Ram Mandir of Chaphal.

8) Bahe Borgaon Maruti

Located on the bank of Krishna river near Borgav. Temple is located on island called as “Ramlinga”. On which there is ancient Rama temple and in front of this there is Shiv Linga. Behind the Rama temple Maruti is located who is in a stance of diverting Krushna river water flow using his both hands 🙂

Located near Kolhapur, there is ~26′ x 15′ hall in front of the temple

10) Pargav Maruti

Smallest idol of all 11 Maruti which is engraved ni a stone (~1.5′ height)

11) Battis-ShiralaMaruti

Thanks, the author of this book exactly expected this. He has mentioned in his book that more & more people should visit these holy places, else in the time span they can go out of maintenance or memory of people. It will be of great help if u visit some of these & send me few snaps. rgds, mahesh

    Dear Mahesh,

    Excellent information !!
Is there any sequence to visit these holy temples just like Astavinayak ?

You had given direction from Satara. I will be travelling from Pune. So which temple will be the first temple? and after then what should be the sequence till Bahe?

If you give some landmarks to approach these places, will be greatful. I am searching for these answers on some sites but unfortunately nothing is available.

Kindly contact me on my e-mail id.

Driving direction is you start from Chaphal -Majgaon-Umbraj-Masur-Shahapur, then have a halt for one day and second day continue from Baahe Borgav-Battis Shirala-Pargaon-Manapadal.
Halt you may take at central place such as Karad (many hotels are there and surely you will get stay, I found hotel Sangam on hlidayIQ, but suggest you see the rooms & select). but other places like Chaphal are having their own beauty in nature and given the change you shall stay at such a place (at Chaphal also there is Dharmashala which was in good condition when I saw) it will be different experience to stay in village (my preference)

    Dear Mahesh,
Good information and is given in nice way. Suits the present day globally spread devotees of Maruti. I had opportunity to visit Chaphal Maruti twice, and Masur Maruti once.
Few days back I visited our Sangli Gaon bhag Maruti, and casually asked the Gurav as to how many pradakshina should I do. Looking at my age [79+] withered figure, he said that if I am not casual I should do eleven rounds; then added ‘if you are not casual, in your inquiring’.
I bowed to him silently, went around all the eleven pradakshina, Approaching him to give my offerings to the Lord, I said are you a follower of Samartha? I am deciding/ sankalpa that I will go to Samartha Ramdas Swami “Akra Maruti Darshan”
In my searching I came across your site. Really nice.
Just think: The Sun has 11 year sun-spot cycle.
Pi is 22/7. which can be written as 11/3.5. Rudra are 11. Rudra are equated to Shiva. Shiva is equated to Soorya. On the other end Rudra is equated to Maruti. 3.5 is the 3 & 1/2 rounds of Soma-sootra pradakshina around Shivalinga. 3&1/2 is also the good times or muhoortas for starting any good work.
By the way, when I went to Tanjawoor, I visited Samadhi of Tyagaraja, the founder of south Indian Music or Karnataka sangeetha. There near the statue of Tyagaraja, I saw a statue of Maruti in meditation. This is an addition to the common Veera, Dasa forms. He can be “YOGI”
More if, what is written is not scrapped.
God Bless you & the devotees of Maruti.
