Yellow Fever Vaccination Pune [Online Booking Available NOW] Update 2022

By Mahesh 82 Comments | Last Updated March 11, 2025

I was searching for information on Yellow Fever Authorized Vaccination center at Pune, but was not getting correct and authentic information. After receiving preliminary information on Sasoon Hospital is authorized for this, I started searching for confirmation from Central Government Websites about the same. However since the list available at website of “Ministry of Health & Family Welfare” by Central government showing authorized yellow fever vaccination is still not updated to include Sasoon Hospital, Pune center, So I was confused and wanted to get confirmation from authority.
So I dropped a mail to Appellate Authority “Suchita Shetty” Of Chhatrapati shivaji International Airport, and I must appreciate the prompt response in half an hour with a telephone call from her office confirming that Sasoon hospital is authorized yellow fever vaccination center 🙂 Bravo !! Her office also sent written email confirming the same.
I must must appreciate such a quick and precise response from Suchita Shetty’s CSIA Mumbai Office.

So Good News is Yellow fever vaccination in Pune Sasoon Hospital is now authorized Government Of India Accredited vaccination Center, so Pune people need not goto Mumbai !

First of all thanks for such a precise information and its helping a lot of people i am sure.. Just wanted to update certain things as i got the vaccination done on 28th December 2015.

        1. Since room no 80 and registration counters are on the same floor, you can go to room no. 80 straight first and negotiate for token number.. the staff gives you the token beforehand, so you have your number secured. As registration takes time because staff comes and settle themselves and slowly start the registrations. which normally kicks off at 8.30 or so..

        2. one person can get 2 registrations done.

        3. No need for 2 Passport copies as Polio center registers you looking at original passport as well.

        4. Dont eat drink anything upto 1 hour after polio vaccination.

        5. for atleast a week.. Alcohol should not be consumed after Yellow Fever thing

I got the vaccination done at Sassoon Hospital as a common person, and had no difficulty at all as was suggested to stand in Sr Citizen Que where I was the second person in line. The senior citizen can avail of this facility. From start to finish, it took me less than three hours to get this ie registration to getting the yellow fever.
The team of doctors and staff at the Unit 80 located on right side of the big big hall has a board written in “Red yellow fever vaccination.’.. One should wear loose sleeved shirt,T-shirt , blouse or top.as shot is given by Doctor on the upper arm on right side..This saves time and botheration.
Monday’s and Tuesday’s only for Yellw Fever vaccination at Sasoon saved me travelling time to Mumbai, what with all rainsc etc. Thanks to the very friendly staff.

        1. Check whether YFV is required for people 60 years or older.
2.Consult your physicIan before walking into YFV centre. Don’t take casually or walk randomly without consulting.
3.Check countries where YFV certificate is madatory. Some countries like Tanzania exempt but verify this onto consular websites . For entry into India, from which countries YFV certificate required, check immigration website.
4.If u r visiting only Tanzania and transiting thru nairobi airport, YFV may not be required. Verify.
5.Check WHO or CDC maps . Though for example Tanzania ,YFV is generally not recommended, still some mosquitos may bite u. So whether to take YFV is to be decided by traveller and his physician.
6.Most important. YFV is derived from live chicken embryos. So people with egg allergies must consult physician without fail. 2 step or 7 step procedure under expert allergy and emergency doctors in fully equipped hospital is advised.

      1. Consult your physician who knows your history before taking vaccine. Don’t randomly or routinely go for test. Check whether it is advisable to take for people 60 years old or more.
2.Some countries like Tanzania don’t require YF Certificate. Check Consular websites.
3.Though certicate may not be required , whether still it is advisable to take vaccine, only a physician can tell.
      4. If visiting both Kenya and Tanzania, check whether u r just transiting in airport in Kenya , then YFC required. Check rules.
5.Most important : People with egg allergy should take advise of physician before taking vaccine. Not recommended generally. A 2 step or 7 step procedure recommended in fully equipped allergy clinic. They can also Medical Waiver Certificate in prescribed yellow form. Whether and where it is valid, who will issue that take proper advice and seek information. YFV is developed on chicken embryos and residual protein may be left in vaccine. Cases of reaction are very few but can be serious also.

Experience of my wife of YFV centre sassoon hosp pune dt 18 04 17
        1. Extreme crowd. Inspite of coming at 7 30 , tokens finished 2. More than 80 persons on Tuesday! 3. Staff of sassoon good well behaved . After quota of 50 sold out , considered another 30. Generous. 4. My wife egg allergy so got exemption certificate albeit with tricky wording that this exemption certificate doesnot prevent any country incl India to put u to quarantine. Which basically means african country can put to quarantine on arrival and also indian airport on arrival back ! Dangerous!! 5. Tanzania eg does not require YFV for coming from non endemic country like india but still YFV is insisted on arrival there since aug 2016. . 6. YFV is cheap in India Rs 310 . In kenya or Tanzania $ 50, In USA $150. etc

My experience of YFV on 24 th April 2017

Arrival at Sassoon at 7 15 am at counter no 5, departure with YFV certificate at 11 am. Most of the experience is similar. Clerk at counter 5 opens somewhat late, slowly processes, then get case paper, get a token at counter no 80, then form a line at Physician in the same room , he asks questions like do u have any allergy or egg allergy, do u have sugar etc .Not much waiting for payment or actual vaccination. May be due to summer vacations, very crowded. If u come after 8 am, most likely difficult to get token. Before vaccination , for heavy breakfast , Srikrishna hotel very close and opportunities to rly stn is good place. Overall a good zalak of typical got hospital and experience!

Today (19-05-2017) we went to Kalavati Mavle hospital for the polio vaccination. I was told on the phone that this is done from 10-12 Monday to Friday and the certificate will be ready for collection in a couple of days (not immediately), so please plan accordingly,
Experience was very good, polite and helpful staff, no rush and we were done in 5 minutes. The vaccinations (oral drops) are free.

Today, 5th June, 2017, I went for my yellow fever vaccination to Sassoon Hospital. I was guided by all the comments above, which were a great help. However, there are slight changes to the comments above. I would advise people, to FIRST make their case paper, at any one of the OPD windows. Windows open at 8 am. Submit a copy of your passport and Rs.10/-.. As there is no special line for yellow fever vaccine, the line gets long with other people.
Once the case paper is made, go quickly for your token to window 80, just opposite. The earlier you get your token, the proceedure gets over
quickly. Meanwhile carry your breakfast with you or one can go to the canteen. But must have a full breakfast. The Doctors in room 80 assess you and questions if we have diabetes,b.p.or thyroid,or if we are allergic to eggs. They fill the form for us. Then tell us to go to Room 52, ground floor, to make the payment of Rs.300/-. There the line is again long with other patients paying. We can request the staff to call people for yellow fever separately, and they oblige. With the receipt, come back to Room 80, show the receipt and get the vaccine. It is not painful at all. Then wait outside for half hour and then go and enquire for your Yellow Fever Certificate. The whole proceedure is smooth.

I visited Sasooon today – 26-June-2017, and it was very smooth. Now they accept 50 people every Monday & Tuesday. They do not give tokens to people anymore if you have not taken your case paper from one of these windows. So first thing first – queue up for case paper at registartion window and get case paper by paying Rs.10 – then immediately go to Room # 80 and get your token number.

Excellent write up. Just wanted to know:
What are the minimum no of days one needs to get these vaccinations before travelling. Somebody tells me that polio is required to be taken atleast 28 days before travel date, and, yellow fever atleast 10 days prior to travel date. Is this correct?

Also, even on successful payment, the website may show error page, but just go to provided link & login again, it would reflect the successful appointment in ‘Appointment History’ screen.

Previous reviews and inputs were of great help, however, would like to post a few updates, as experienced by me on 04-05 June 2018. Now all registration/documentation/ payment etc is done at a single window (viz. 90). Online appointment is highly recommended as we had to come back on 04th, as the day’s quota was over with online bookings and a handful of non booked personnel. Booked online for 05th June and got the vaccination at OPD no 80, very close to the counter no 90. Counter opens at 0830-40, and vaccination starts at 0900. Heavy breakfast before vaccination recommended.

Were told that polio vaccination has to be taken within 24 hrs of yellow fever or after 28 days, Hence rushed to the Kalavati Mavale hospital (0930 to 1230 on Mon, Tue and Wed only). Very congested roads and location, (no parking space), hence better to take an auto rick, from Sassoon (appx Rs 65 one way). Most auto drivers don’t know the place, but can take you to Narayan peth police chowki, from where locals can guide you. No waiting/ booking, but issue of certificate can be delayed if doctor on duty authorised to sign is not available.

Updating my experience on 21 August 2018.
Registering online will make it easier since there is fixed quota every day.
Documents needed are copy of online payment receipt, appointment letter and copy of passport. (I wasn’t asked to show original passport, but better to carry)

First you need register yourself at the OPD counter (dedicated to yellow fever and the number keeps changing) close to YF vaccination section. This doesn’t take time as there is no queue.
Go back to YF counter (no.80) to open. Once it opens, take a token. Have breakfast since they recommend heavy breakfast
After a while (around 9-9.15 am) they will make you sit as per token numbers before starting to give vaccines. After taking down few details on allergies etc they give you vaccine and ask you to wait for one hour before providing certificate. (Wear half sleeves shirt/top since they give it on arm)
After one hour come back to the YF counter to collect your certificate. Don’t forget to check whether all your details mentioned on the certificate are correct before leaving hospital.
I reached the hospital at 8.30 and left at 10.45.
Could have finished earlier but few people jumped the queue and perhaps doctor came late so counter opened late.

As suggested by another member, polio must be taken with 24 hours or after 28 days. I did go to Kalavati Hospital and took OPV(no queue and took a minute) but doctor didn’t provide certificate on same day. Had to go next day to collect it.

Hello Mahesh Sir, thank you for sharing useful information.
    Let me share my experience.
After understanding from someone that yellow fever vaccination available at one of hospital in PCMC Pune, I personally went there at enquired. However hospital administration said that they don’t have vaccination available and can not commit on when it will be available. After enquiring 2-3 hospitals in PCMC, I end up understanding that such facility is only at Sasoon general hospital near Pune station and it has online and offline options. I choose online option and went ahead to book appointment. I have no idea what offline process meant. Let me mention that appointment is subject to availability as they have limited numbers per day. After taking appointment, I couldn’t save the acknowledgment in PDF. There fore I suggest to take screenshot and print out of same as it has to be produced during vaccination. It took INR 320 for online payment.
Now comes the date of vaccination. I reached half hour before as instructed in the information shared online. While I went on window no. 40, attendant asked to go window no. 7. There was queue of around 50 odd people. It took me half hour to clear the queue and get the initial registration. NO PAYMENT DONE HERE as I have already done online payment. Got registration receipt and Came to ward 80. Took the token and went for screening. Here screening means normal routine check and enquiry about any medical history or current ailment. Post that, injection and wait for an hour to receive the certificate. That’s it.
    Summary of important learning-
    1. Reach maximum by 9 am to avoid anxiety due to crowd and opportunity to miss the chance. Remember it’s a government hospital.
    2. Keep enquiring hospital staff/ security for directions/ windows/ ward locations. As it seems chaos because of crowd.
    3. Take print out of online appointment acknowledgment. As no net cafe available nearby to take print out.
    4. Original passport and it’s photocopy required.
    Hope users find it useful.
Now heading to Kalawati Mavle hospital to take oral polio vaccination. They say it is available up to 1230 hrs only🙄
