Switzerland 22 – Glacier Express

By Mahesh 5 Comments | Last Updated July 26, 2015

So its completing the circle round and getting back to Zurich πŸ™ through Glacier express, from Zermatt to Chur and then to Zurich by standard train route….

Since morning ~10 am train have another Glacier express 10 mins before, I was able to set my tripod to get this shot with slow shutter speed πŸ™‚

as we saw during our travel in Golden pass route ,,,, Glacier express also do have serpentine track to get many snaps with train and mountains .. only that I could not avoid having glares in the photo’s !

I do not remember how I got this snap .. but this is shot during this travel only !

One of the most tasty lunch during Switzerland stay was food at Glacier express, we saw there is Chiken Tikka available ! and ordered it !! to our surprise it was as good as Indian one .. and the salad was yummy !!! rice was made to Indian taste . so surprisingly it was a real Indian dish .. I strongly recommend you to try this πŸ™‚

The most awaited for me to watch something like this which i hv seen in many pictures ! grass rolls … which i got here on glacier express route .. it looks amazing …

one more grass rolls view .. with nice brick work in foreground and mountains at a distance with clear blue sky having white cotten on it ! picture perfect πŸ™‚

and finally I could see how do they make these rolls !! I was wondering for years . incidentally since our train was waiting to pass crossing train .. got 5~6 minutes to watch the roll making and stacking too πŸ™‚

also could understand how few persons can work on large farm in short time .. in fact in 5~6 minutes only they could wrap up a roll …

at a station in between (don’t remember name) the express stopped to get connected to another one .. so I got down to see this music band playing instruments .. a quick shot though ..

another thing which I did not see previously during my journey .. a dam !! yes this is at 135 mm full zoom in moving train from my canon .. nice shot πŸ™‚

ok… these metal structures I saw all over and was thinking that it may be for cows !! during the commentary from glacier express i could know that they are ice breakers used during controlled ave-launch done by experts team during winter seasons to minimize accident risk … once the ice falls down on track .. a machine removes it at the rate of 16 tonnes per minute to clear the railway tracks !!

Wine farms on the mountains .. this knowledge also u get via a commentary .. which goes in the train where u can have earphones .. and the indicator in the train shows which point number on the route map to be seen and what is information for that point…

winary
keep looking for different church designs on the way …
keep looking for different church designs on the way …
Construction in progress …

river rafting going on ..

waterbody for miles … along the way of track .. feels like to get down and join them in water rafting …but ..for sure next time …

the village .. again and again picture perfect things .. all around … i loved each moment of my travel all around Switzerland .. with mesmerizing scenes ..loved it …

water looks like coloured by someone .. so as the mountains ..
if u hv money to spend .. get down here and enjoy πŸ™‚

and I wish to end my post by adding this beautiful picture I could get during this journey of Glacier express πŸ™‚

so tomorrow it is fly back to India from Zurich … ohh god .. give me another chance to visit Switzerland again (and again ..)

Cheers !!

Yes, if you have travel pass then you can buy it at concession rate, but you have to book all the pass and tickets from India itself to get low prices (this is as mentioned on their website)

Dear Mahesh, as you said it is better to go to St Moritz instead of alighting at Chur. Can I do Zermatt – St Moritz (8hours) and then St Moritz – Zurich (3h 45min) the same day without spending night in St Moritz. What is your take? I am falling short of 1 night
