I still remember my first trek in my life done in 1988, and that too at “Dhak Bahiri”!!,which is supposed to be one of the difficult treks in Maharashtra. At least a beginner should not try it at all !!!
I still remember the last climb which is the most dangerous step one can dream about, and at that time there was no climbing rope with us and only a Bamboo was fitted on which you need to climb. Literally you have to believe in GOD and climb, but now the time is changed, we really need to do such things safely.
Anyway, the reason to remember this is the news last week about the “Safe climbing initiative” & “Vedh Sahyadricha” initiative about assisting the trekkers to safely climb the famous & thrilling “Dhak Bahiri”.
International climber Prof. Nikolas Mylander opined about the path to Dhak is not safe for climbers, which resulted in this “Safe Climbing Initiative” operation. So the Safe Climbing Initiative group members decided to fix a mountaineering Bolts made in Germany. But these bolts were not affordable. So the members made the bolts in-house using high quality stainless steel engineered by Mr. Vijay Limaye and an important point to note is that these bolts are successfully tested in Germany. These bolts can take load up to 3000 Kg and will last long for next 50 years! Too good to believe, but it is an interesting fact.
Now the Bolts are in place and fitted by the following team members:
Satish Ingale, Balasaheb Patil, Krishna Dhokale, Surendra Shlake, Vivek Marahte, Swanand Joshi, Anand Mali and Dr. Narendra Patil.
I must congratulate the team for doing such effort for safe climbing.
So guys, gear up for “Dhak Cha Bhairi”
